Figuri solare. Unul la Cluj, cel\u0103lalt la Bucure\u0219ti. Ambii, explor\u00eend prioritar literatura secolului al XIX-lea, care, dac\u0103 n-a fost tocmai unul \u201eal bunului plac \u0219i al bunului gust\u201d, a avut totu\u0219i, la noi, ceva omene\u0219te a\u0219ezat: e momentul coresponden\u021belor \u00een avalan\u0219\u0103 \u0219i al memorialelor faste, \u00eenc\u0103rcate de sens, c\u0103ci niciodat\u0103 parc\u0103 regimul public \u0219i cel privat nu s-au \u00eengem\u0103nat mai bine. Risc s\u0103 spun c\u0103, studiindu-l \u0219i pred\u00eendu-l de la catedr\u0103, Ioana Em. Petrescu \u0219i Paul Cornea i-au preluat simbolic mo\u0219tenirea. \u0218i nu cred c\u0103 m\u0103 \u00een\u0219el, chiar dac\u0103, sigur, concluzia mea pleac\u0103 de la ni\u0219te e\u0219antioane.<\/p>\n<p>E vorba, mai \u00eent\u00eei, despre volumul de\u00a0<em>Scrisori primite (1961-1990)\u00a0<\/em>de autoarea\u00a0<em>Modelelor cosmologice.\u00a0<\/em>Are dreptate editoarea acestui corpus, Ioana Bot, s\u0103 invoce \u00een prefa\u021b\u0103 un neobi\u0219nuit talent de a asculta (pesemne ereditar, \u00een m\u0103sura \u00een care, ca de-at\u00eetea ori, exist\u0103 o bunic\u0103 \u00eenzestrat\u0103 cu acelea\u0219i \u00eensu\u0219iri), de a stimula confiden\u021ba, at\u00eet c\u00eet \u201es\u0103 te u\u0219ureze de povar\u0103\u201d. Deopotriv\u0103 colegi de profesie, mai v\u00eerstnici sau congeneri (de la Augustin Z.N. Pop, Alexandru Du\u021bu, Dan Simonescu, Dumitru Irimia, Gavril Scridon, Mircea Anghelescu, Matei C\u0103linescu, Mihai Zamfir \u0219.a.), prieteni vechi, fo\u0219ti studen\u021bi (Ion Simu\u021b, Al. Cistelecan, Radu G. \u021aeposu) sau pur \u0219i simplu \u201ediscipoli de la distan\u021b\u0103\u201d (Vlad Alexandrescu, Alexandru Mu\u0219ina, George Vulturescu, Simona Popescu, Dan C. Mih\u0103ilescu, Monica Spiridon) \u00eei \u00eemp\u0103rt\u0103\u0219esc de-ale lor, solicitate sau, mai degrab\u0103, nu.<\/p>\n<p>Nu \u0219tiu \u00een ce m\u0103sur\u0103, luate unul c\u00eete unul, aceste numeroase am\u0103nunte intereseaz\u0103 pe biograf, dar, \u00eemi \u00eenchipui, un moralist s-ar putea sim\u021bi r\u0103spl\u0103tit. E un tablou de gesturi calibrate, aici, ca s\u0103 nu mai spun de \u00eentreaga re\u021bea pe care, \u00een mod subtil \u0219i f\u0103r\u0103 eforturi diplomatice, Ioana Em. Petrescu reu\u0219e\u0219te s\u0103 o \u00eenchege. Iar asta, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 aib\u0103, propriu vorbind, vreo alt\u0103 putere dec\u00eet pe aceea a competen\u021bei unanim recunoscute. E emo\u021bionant, de pild\u0103, s\u0103 citim \u00eentr-o not\u0103 cum, pe c\u00eend f\u0103cea, universitar, oficii de asistent\u0103, titularul de curs i-a\u00a0<em>cedat\u00a0<\/em>pur \u0219i simplu locul s\u0103u, convins fiind c\u0103, \u00eemp\u0103rt\u0103\u0219it de ea, Eminescu e mai interesant dec\u00eet l-ar putea descrie el vreodat\u0103. Lucru, \u00een\u021beleg, f\u0103r\u0103 precedent \u00een istoria Literelor clujene (pe c\u00eete \u0219tiu, iar dac\u0103 m\u0103 arunc, a\u0219tept s\u0103 fiu contrazis, nici \u00een alte centre nu s-a-nt\u00eemplat una ca asta). Semn c\u0103 valoarea impune, oric\u00eet de discret \u0219i de nerevendicativ s-ar manifesta ea.<\/p>\n<p>De altfel, (cel pu\u021bin) un episod similar mai poate fi g\u0103sit \u00een aceste pagini. \u0218i anume, unul datorat celuilalt personaj al cronicii mele, Paul Cornea. \u00cen plin 1976, abia \u00eentors dintr-un stagiu \u00een Ungaria, acesta intr\u0103 \u00een posesia unei posibile surse a\u00a0<em>\u021aiganiadei\u00a0<\/em>lui Budai-Deleanu: un anume Ratschky, autor, la 1799, al epopeii eroi-comice\u00a0<em>Melchior Striegel.\u00a0<\/em>Ocupat \u00eens\u0103 cu multe altele, printre care o masiv\u0103 edi\u021bie Kog\u0103lniceanu, Cornea decide s\u0103-i d\u0103ruiasc\u0103 subiectul mai tinerei colege, \u00een m\u0103sura \u00een care aceasta \u00eel va g\u0103si fecund. Propunerea denot\u0103 nu doar altruism, ci o \u00eencredere suveran\u0103, iar r\u00eendurile merit\u0103 re\u021binute \u00een tot explicitul lor: \u201eBine\u00een\u021beles\u00a0<em>dac\u0103<\/em>\u00a0te intereseaz\u0103 (c\u0103ci d-ta preferi studiile structuralo-tipologice \u2013 n-am uitat!) \u0219i dac\u0103 nu ai, a\u0219a cum e cazul meu, Academia, Editura \u0219i alte instan\u021be pe cap. \u00cen cazul negativ, nu te jena s\u0103 mi-o spui net: de fapt, nu e nici o nenorocire, voi explica neam\u021bului c\u0103 s\u00eent obligat s\u0103 am\u00een cercetarea \u0219i el va a\u0219tepta vr\u00eend-nevr\u00eend. Oricum, \u00een afar\u0103 de d-ta n-am de g\u00eend s\u0103 \u00eencredin\u021bez nim\u0103nui acest \u00abcaz\u00bb incitant. Sau eu, sau d-ta. Dac\u0103 e\u0219ti de acord, scrie-mi \u0219i vom vedea cum facem\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Decizii (iat\u0103, deja dou\u0103) suprarealist de normale, f\u0103c\u00eendu-\u0219i loc \u00eentr-o lume, cum se \u0219tie, cu totul anapoda. Printre nout\u0103\u021bile documentare ale acestui corpus a\u0219 semnala \u0219i una privindu-l pe tat\u0103l Ioanei Em. Petrescu, istoricul literar D. Popovici, \u0219i el\u00a0<em>ottocentist<\/em>\u00a0de prim\u0103 importan\u021b\u0103. \u0218tiam c\u0103, \u00een urma\u00a0<em>Istoriei<\/em>&#8230; sale din 1941, G. C\u0103linescu a fost reclamat pe linie ministerial\u0103 \u0219i c\u0103, \u00een chip isteric, s-a cerut \u00eendep\u0103rtarea lui din \u00eenv\u0103\u021b\u0103m\u00eent. Ce-mi era \u00eens\u0103 necunoscut e detaliul c\u0103 deciden\u021bii de-atunci au luat o atare propunere \u00een serios, constituind chiar o comisie\u00a0<em>ad-hoc\u00a0<\/em>(\u0219i mai clar spus: \u201ela pont\u201d) \u00een sarcina c\u0103reia ar fi urmat s\u0103 cad\u0103 nepl\u0103cuta \u0219i injusta rezolu\u021bie. Ca adversar de idei al criticului, Popovici a fost chemat s\u0103 refere. Se conta, \u00een ce-l prive\u0219te, pe tenta\u021bia revan\u0219ei. Numai c\u0103 (o afl\u0103m din m\u0103rturia unui fost student, Traian Blajovici) acesta a procedat exact pe dos, adic\u0103 perfect onest, apreciind sinteza \u0219i disculp\u00eendu-l pe autor \u00eentr-at\u00eet \u00eenc\u00eet r\u00eendurile sale au contribuit la transferul lui C\u0103linescu de la Ia\u0219i la Bucure\u0219ti.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Personaje comune<\/em><\/p>\n<p>La polul opus, tot felul de m\u0103run\u021bi\u0219uri, meschin\u0103rii (nu numai) universitare, pe care Ioana Em. Petrescu le recep\u021bioneaz\u0103 cu, s-ar zice, nesf\u00eer\u0219it\u0103 r\u0103bdare. Cursan\u021bi\u00a0<em>d\u2019antan\u00a0<\/em>\u00eei trimit lungi discursuri liricoide, ba chiar patografice, uneori, cum se-nt\u00eempl\u0103 cu ultimul set de scrisori, a c\u0103ror stilistic\u0103 e genuin halucinan(t)\u0103,\u00a0<em>\u00e0 la\u00a0<\/em>Lautr\u00e9amont, dar, m\u0103 tem, f\u0103r\u0103 inten\u021bie: \u201eCum nu mai am pilule de optimism, terapeutica sufleteasc\u0103 e-ntr-un intens declin. Ceva concluzii practice se impun. Terorizat\u0103 s\u0103 trec prin \u00eencerc\u0103ri c\u0103ut\u00eend acel ceva care-mi r\u0103pe\u015fte o parte din ceea ce simt. M\u0103 r\u00eec\u00eeie ni\u0219te g\u00eenduri f\u0103r\u0103 trup \u015fi, dac\u0103 ar fi s\u0103 le dau o culoare, ar c\u0103p\u0103ta forma unei \u00eentreb\u0103ri, \u00een fond idioate: de ce? \u015ei de ce ce? Doar toate se \u00eenscriu \u00een \u00een\u0163eleapta ordine a neghioabelor lucruri vegheate de oarece fantom\u0103 numit\u0103 destin. G\u00eenduri care nu vor s\u0103 \u00eembrace straie decente. Zgur\u0103 de filosofie ieftin\u0103 \u015fi paradoxuri cu zurg\u0103l\u0103i ca \u00eentotdeauna. S\u0103 la\u015fi s\u0103 lucreze instinctul de conservare \u015fi atunci dezn\u0103dejdea, sau cum s-o fi chem\u00eend, o s\u0103 devin\u0103 suportabil\u0103 ca un reumatism cronic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, \u00een alte \u00eensemn\u0103ri, ale altora, o galerie de ranchiune de tot felul, culmin\u00eend cu aceea a lui Eugen Simion, preocupat, \u00eenc\u0103 din anii \u201980, s\u0103 identifice detractori ai lui Marin Preda \u0219i, nepreag\u0103sindu-i, s\u0103-i inventeze chiar printre monogr\u00e1fii probi ai sili\u0219teanului. Oameni \u0219i oameni&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>La acest inventar (comunitatea speciali\u0219tilor fiind restr\u00eens\u0103, nu-i de mirare c\u0103 multe personaje s\u00eent comune),\u00a0<em>Jurnalul<\/em>\u00a0lui Paul Cornea adaug\u0103 c\u00eeteva ingrediente: laboratorul studiilor, apetitul polemic, respectiv dimensiunea politic\u0103. Sigur, cartea, pe care m\u0103 simt tentat s\u0103 o subintitulez \u201ea anului\u201d, poate fi citit\u0103 \u0219i ca o spectaculoas\u0103 colec\u021bie de portrete \u00een acvaforte \u0219i de anecdote cu scriitori.<\/p>\n<p>Aduc vorba de ele pentru c\u0103, picante fiind, vor lua ochii multora (fatalitate&#8230;) \u0219i, \u00een definitiv, pentru c\u0103, de\u0219i vizeaz\u0103 nume semnificative, ca Ion Barbu, Camil Petrescu, Paul Georgescu Nina Cassian, Noica, Eliade \u0219i, desigur, Arghezi (printre altele replic\u00eendu-i lui Caragiale: \u201eCine scrie, n-are nevoie de sfaturi\u201d), scenele povestite nu-s, \u00eendeob\u0219te, foarte circulante. Unele, mai ales acelea venite pe filier\u0103 Caraion, mi se par calomnioase\u00a0<em>tout court<\/em>\u00a0\u0219i, prin induc\u021bie, veninos fanteziste. Altele, frapante prin inedit, merit\u0103 investigate r\u0103bd\u0103tor: chestiuni de paternitate literar\u0103 sau, dup\u0103 caz, de oportunist\u0103 postdatare a unor situa\u021bii de via\u021b\u0103<em>.\u00a0<\/em>Paul Cornea le consemneaz\u0103 c\u00eet pentru a le l\u0103sa, sie\u0219i sau altora, ca posibile piste. Nu-mi amintesc s\u0103 fi revenit altundeva asupra lor, iar aici, \u00een\u00a0<em>Jurnal<\/em>, cu siguran\u021b\u0103 nu o face.<\/p>\n<p>Ce mi se pare \u00eens\u0103 important, spuneam, \u021bine de alte calit\u0103\u021bi. De exemplu, de felul cum istoricul (\u0219i teoreticianul) literar \u0219i-a conceput \u00een singur\u0103tate opera. Plec\u00eend de la observa\u021bii de absolut bun-sim\u021b, asupra c\u0103rora ajunge s\u0103 reflecteze nu \u00een ritm hebdomadar, ca at\u00ee\u021bia al\u021bii dintre contemporanii s\u0103i mai populari, ci luni \u0219i, uneori, ani de-a r\u00eendul, studiindu-le \u00een resorturile lor \u0219i expun\u00eendu-le cu un bun-sim\u021b de asemenea cuceritor. Exerci\u021biul e vulnerabil de intim: \u201eDar s\u0103 m\u0103 \u00eentorc la proiectele anun\u021bate. A descoperi ceea ce ai de g\u00eend s\u0103 lucrezi \u00eenseamn\u0103 pentru un m\u00eezg\u0103litor de h\u00eertie, ca alde noi, un fel de a-\u021bi desc\u0103rca sufletul, nu at\u00eet spre a sc\u0103pa de obsesii (precum p\u0103c\u0103tosul de p\u0103cate), ci spre a c\u00ee\u0219tiga distan\u021ba unei lucidit\u0103\u021bi care nu e niciodat\u0103 prisoselnic\u0103 atunci c\u00eend p\u0103\u0219e\u0219ti din \u00eenc\u0103perile mirifice ale viului \u00een lumea de limit\u0103ri \u0219i capcane a scrisului celui de toate zilele\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>F\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103 fie, pe de alt\u0103 parte, un nou Adrian Marino (fa\u021b\u0103 de care s-a purtat ca un prieten, dar c\u0103ruia nu i-a conces r\u0103ut\u0103\u021bile \u0219i numeroasele ulcera\u021bii), Paul Cornea e adeseori sever, astfel \u00eenc\u00eet cei care se a\u0219teapt\u0103 aici la pagini l\u00eenced c\u0103ldu\u021be, de o amabilitate amorf\u0103, vor fi contraria\u021bi. C\u00eend are de dat note mici, profesorul nu se fere\u0219te s\u0103 le dea, \u00een clar, chiar celor la care \u021bine (surprizele onomastice: destule). Nu e vorba, repet, de capricii autoritare, ci de banalul \u0219i totdeauna folositorul discern\u0103m\u00eent. Cel care m\u0103 face s\u0103 pre\u021buiesc vocea din aceste pagini, \u00een general riguroas\u0103 c\u00eend separ\u0103 apele \u0219i de-a dreptul laparoscopic\u0103 atunci c\u00eend sondeaz\u0103 \u021besuturile ideologice.<\/p>\n<p>Ca un idealist ce fusese, lecuit dup\u0103 episodul de st\u00eenga din prima tinere\u021be, Cornea identific\u0103 prompt toxinele extremiste din aerul vremii. Care nu-s pu\u021bine, \u00eencep\u00eend cu turnura na\u021bionalist\u0103 a ceau\u0219ismului \u0219i, s-o spun pe \u0219leau, cu deriva multicolor\u0103 a anilor \u201990. P\u0103cat c\u0103, scris \u00een salturi, cu frecvente \u00eentreruperi,\u00a0<em>Jurnalul\u00a0<\/em>acesta, altminteri foarte \u00eentins (1933-2017), nu prinde nici schimbarea de regim din \u201948, nici revolu\u021bia din \u201989, nici serialul de mineriade, nici victoria Conven\u021biei Democrate. Ar fi fost interesant s\u0103 putem urm\u0103ri tu\u0219ele pe care, mai pu\u021bin naiv \u0219i mai informat dec\u00eet oricare dintre noi, g\u0103sea el de cuviin\u021b\u0103 s\u0103 le pun\u0103 asupra unor istorii p\u00een\u0103 azi confuze.<\/p>\n<p>Ce r\u0103m\u00eene pe conturul acestor paranteze, fie prospectiv, fie \u00een chip de concluzie, m\u0103 face s\u0103 cred c\u0103, \u00eentre at\u00ee\u021bia miopi, Paul Cornea chiar vedea clar. Am mai spus-o cu c\u00eeteva ocazii, acum m\u0103 bucur s-o pot l\u0103sa \u0219i-n scris:\u00a0<em>Jurnalul\u00a0<\/em>acesta ne dezv\u0103luie un mare intelectual public de natur\u0103 privat\u0103.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Cosmin Ciotlo\u015f<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0este critic literar \u0219i lector la Facultatea de Litere din Bucure\u0219ti.
