His main interests are Victorian literature, the contemporary British novel in a cultural context and contemporary Irish poetry. He is the author of two volumes of literary studies: <i>The Sign of the Phoenix<\/i> dedicated to the short prose of D.H. Lawrence in the 1920s, in an archetypal anthropological perception and <i>The Literatures of Identity<\/i>, which provides a cultural perspective on the literature in Britain of the 1980s. He also published <i>The Palace of Art<\/i>, a critical and annotated anthology of Victorian literature.
