The present volume brings together, for the first time, the dramatic works of Robert Cohen, in a bilingual edition. Two of the plays were previously published in English, but the third (The Mobius Strip) is published now for the first time. The three texts were also published in Romanian, in separate editions, on the occasion of their staging at the National Theater of Cluj, between 2011 and 2016.

The plays are very different both stylistically and thematically. Machiavelli (written in 1997) is an impressive historical fresco with veritable and intense dramatic situations of intense drama, with spectacular overturns and vivid portraits of some famous historical figures of the time. The Mobius Strip is a charming comedy with dramatic accents, whose protagonists are a gay couple and adolescent niece of one of them. The play was written in 1971, when the topic was still taboo, long before Tony Kushner's famous play Angels in America (1993). Bzapp (written in 1969) is a hallucinatory hyperbolizing comedy, whose (anti)hero – a prosperous businessman – crosses an existential crisis and seeks refuge into the psychedelic universe of drugs.

Volumul de față reunește pentru prima oară opera dramatică a lui Robert Cohen, într-o ediție bilingvă. Două dintre piese au fost publicate în engleză, dar cea de a treia (The Mobius Strip) apare acum pentru prima oară și în original. Cele trei texte au mai apărut în limba română, în volume separate, cu ocazia montării lor la Teatrul Național din Cluj, între 2011 și 2016. 

Piesele sunt foarte diferite atât stilistic, cât și tematic. Machiavelli (scrisă în 1997) este o impresionantă frescă istorică, cu situații veridice de un intens dramatism, cu răsturnări spectaculoase și portrete consistente ale unor figuri celebre din epocă.  Banda lui Moebius este o fermecătoare comedie, cu accente de dramă, ai cărei protagoniști sunt un cuplu gay și nepoata adolescentă a unuia dintre ei. Piesa e scrisă în 1971, când subiectul era mai degrabă tabu, cu mult înaintea celebrei piese a lui Tony Kushner, Îngeri în America (1993). Bzapp (scrisă în 1969) este o comedie hiperbolizantă, cu tentă halucinatorie, al cărei (anti)erou – un prosper om de afaceri – traversează o criză existențială și se refugiază în universul psihedelic al drogurilor.
