The book adopts a pragmatic approach to written academic discourse by regarding the intentions, expectations and background knowledge of language users in connection with the linguistic and social contexts of specific language use. Methods such as the critical review of relevant literature, genre and critical genre analysis, comparative corpus analysis, quantitative analysis and interpretation will be used.
The relevance and originality of this book lie in the novelty of the proposed research, especially given the absence of studies on Romanian medical academics and undergraduate medical students in connection with written academic discourse, the production and reception of research articles, hedging or English for Specific Purposes. The results could generate new research opportunities as well as practical teaching applications in the field of English for Medical Purposes in the Romanian higher-education setting.
