This is an exciting time for computer science (informatics), computer scientists, and computer science students. In just over a half century, the field has risen from infancy to assume a significant role in almost all disciplines, not only science and engineering but also social sciences, medicine, and law. It is the engine of growth in many technologies from automotive to domotics, from logistics to finance. The teaching of informatics and computer science has been accepted and adopted in schools, and several countries have required the study of informatics at the elementary school level. There are those who argue that computer science should be required and taught as basic knowledge, alongside reading, writing, and arithmetic.
