Career Strategies for Tech Professionals

Monica Negoescu graduated from the Faculty of Letters at Babeș-Bolyai University (UBB) in 1996, specializing in English and German language and literature. She later earned a Master’s degree in American Studies in 2004 from UBB’s Faculty of European Studies, followed by a PhD in Philology in 2016 from the same university. Over the years, she has received several scholarships in Germany and Austria, which allowed her to further specialize in her areas of interest: foreign language teaching methodology, applied linguistics, literature and folklore, translation studies, and professional communication.

Since the 2024–2025 academic year, she has been working as a career counsellor at the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, Robotics, and Production Management, where she actively contributes to the organization and delivery of events designed to support the professional success of students at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN).

Her wide-ranging interests are reflected in the numerous scientific articles, conference papers, and translations she has authored throughout her career, as well as in two volumes published by Casa Cărții de Știință in Cluj-Napoca: Cărturari saxo-români în Transilvania secolului XIX and Preocupări ale intelectualilor germani transilvăneni pentru cultura tradițională românească în secolul XIX.  She is also the co-author of a language proficiency test book (Teste de competență lingvistică. Limbi străine pentru știință și tehnică ) and the sole author of the textbook Energy. English for Electrical Students, both published by UTPress.

Her latest textbook, Career Strategies for Tech Professionals, is designed to offer comprehensive training for future graduates preparing to enter the job market. It guides readers through every step of the process, from researching and assembling a strong application to successfully navigating the technical interview, all while focusing on highlighting the candidate’s most relevant skills and qualities. Drawing on her experience as a career counsellor, the author provides practical, effective solutions for each phase of this delicate journey and speaks directly to young graduates in a language that resonates with their emotions, curiosity, uncertainties, and strong desire to succeed.
