PRACTISE YOUR ENGLISH VERB TENSES – THE INDICATIVE MOOD –addresses 1st year students specializing in Translation studies and Communication studies, who need an excellent command of the English tense system in order to grasp the complexity of the English language, as well as anyone interested in consolidating and developing one’s own English tense-related knowledge and usage. Briefly put, this learning tool aims at achieving a very specific goal, i.e. bridging the know-do gap in terms of use of the English indicative tenses, whereas other moods will be dealt with in further works.
The narrowly focused goal and targeted learners have imposed, in the author’s view, a 12-unit organization, advancing both theoretical and practical input, and attachment of two additional resources (appendices 1 and 2).
Units 1 – 11 are conceived and structured so as to ensure consolidation and expansion of knowledge related to the use of the English tenses of the indicative mood through well-organized, schematically-outlined explanations backed up by examples relevant for the specific tense use under analysis.
Unit 12 provides extensive practice of the English indicative tenses through translation exercises that showcase sentence-level translations, purposely devised to consolidate the usage of a specific tense (subunits 12.1 -12.7), and paragraph-level translations chosen to fill the know-do gap by activating and applying correctly tense-related knowledge (subunit 12.8).
It is to be hoped that learners will find this learning tool genuinely effective and rewarding while setting up the right premises for further progress.
