This book represents the first volume of the “Medical Robotics” series.
Medical Robotics is a challenging field that has evolved continuously in the last decades in parallel with the evolution of technology. Cancer, often considered the disease of the XXI century, remains an ongoing challenge where every advance represents a step forward in the battle between life and death. The fight against cancer comprises two closely interconnected components: diagnosis and treatment.
The book provides an overview of the most important innovative medical parallel robots for oncology, developed within The Research Centre for Robots Simulation and Testing (CESTER) at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
The book addresses key areas of medical robotics for oncology, namely robotic systems and robotic instruments for cancer diagnosis and cancer therapy.
Structured into seven major chapters, the book gradually introduces the reader in the fascinating and challenging world of medical robotics for oncology. Each chapter explores an innovative medical parallel robot, beginning with its task description, architecture definition and structural synthesis, followed by considerations of kinematics, singularities and workspace analysis. The exploration continues with robot numerical simulation, control and operation.
The book serves as a special resource for a diverse audience, including Bachelor students, Master students, PhD students and researchers in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, control systems engineering and biomedical engineering. Its content holds high interest for both physicians and engineers in the medical and biomedical fields.
This publication marks a significant milestone in the authors’ ongoing efforts to make a valuable contribution to the theoretical and practical training of students and researchers.
