Gelu Badea’s study, Prințul minor (The Minor Prince), dedicated to the artistic and pedagogical work of Radu Penciulescu, is a monograph of major importance in the landscape of Romanian theater exegesis. The work is the result of a synthesis covering a period of almost sixty years in the career of the Romanian director (and Swedish, by adoption since 1973, when he decided to leave the communist camp), who was active in the purest sense of the word on stages in Romania and in various European workshops dedicated to theater teaching. However, the author’s analytical approach does not only focus on the artistic career of this important representative of theater and the visual arts in Europe, but also on the simultaneous debate of the themes raised, by exploring the directorial directions and the topics of theatrical thought, in other words, by evaluating the significant forms of representation, those that have charged the stage with a restored ideology. Thus, in each chapter of the book, the reader can easily grasp the reasons invoked and the tools used by Penciulescu throughout his career, by virtue of an art that takes on the most unexpected forms.
